David BirchDAVID BIRCH

“A recent operation gave me a vivid and inescapable experience of how vulnerable my place is on this earth. I was confronted with what I had avoided for so long: my own mortality. As I became acquainted with this new and distinctly uncomfortable knowledge, I began to reconsider what my life might really be about. Future plans, a lifelong preoccupation, have receded into the distance. I am now much more appreciative of ‘now’ and the potential that lies hidden in every moment.”

Since graduating in 1979, David has had many differing roles in his career, as a teacher in the UK and Japan, a Management Advisor for the Work Foundation and several corporate roles over 10 years with PwC. Since 2000, he has worked as a freelance consultant and with Ashridge business school. He typically consults to boards or senior teams responsible for leading major projects or functions. He believes in people’s inherent resourcefulness and sees his role as opening up a space for an honest and collaborative exploration of his client’s context, aims and needs.

His practice is informed by his theoretical knowledge of OD, augmented through his training as an integrative psychotherapist. David views organisations a complex web of systems and is alert to what may be felt but not necessarily acknowledged by his clients.

David is based in the UK.
